The old industrial yards off I480 south of Leavenworth have always caught my attention, so I decided to finally check them out. I didn’t find anything anything extraordinary, but these two photographs are possible additions to Omaha Gothic.

Side of an orange brick building with yellow capital lettering at the top that reads, "USED BUILDING MATERIALS." A billboard looms above adjacent to blue sky.

Doorway into a brick building. The doorway has a thick white frame that has a triangle shape on top. There is a shadow a fence on the walkway that approaches the door.

  1. I think you found two ordinary subjects that become extraordinary because of the way you made them. I like the way the electrical lines on the left and right lead the eye to the building. All the lines in the central area from a kind of frame within the image. The references to “used” and “building” suggest a certain contradiction and sadness. The off-balance lines of the doorway almost creates an emotional dance of sorts. Both are possibilities. Are they Gothic? The photo group I belong to is going “high class”(?). The group is doing a web site. I have been working on a WIX site that I can put into the group site. When I get it finished and published, I will send you the URL. Mine focuses on Wabi Sabi images. Otherwise, spring has sprung.

    1. Thanks, Dan. Not sure “Gothic” really fits the project anymore–if it ever did. Still looking for a title; maybe one will arrive as I continue work.

I’m excited to see the new website…please do share when you have it ready.
